the business of designing
is a good business, provided:
1)you 've got someone to appreciate your works, and your taste of arts.
2)you can look around to see new opportunities other than discuz, like the emerging [url=http://bbs.ecshop.com][u]ecshop[/u][/url], [url=http://www.drupal.org][u]drupal[/u][/url], etc.
3)you can be more independent on the above mentioned open source projects. besides contributing plugins for them, you can also design, create and deliver your own stuff. just like v2ex.
